Biography

Daniel Salomon Sotomayor is an associate in Norton Rose Fulbright’s New York office whose practice centers on financing energy projects across the Americas. He represents lenders, sponsors and international agencies in project finance, debt financings, tax equity investments, tax equity bridge facilities and construction loans, with a particular focus on renewable portfolios and natural gas infrastructure. Daniel has advised on sustainability-linked bonds and cross‑border financings by international agencies for projects in Latin America. Building on prior experience in energy project development, commercial agreements (PPAs, GSAs, TSAs) and utility rate and regulatory matters, he brings a full‑cycle perspective to complex transactions in the US and Latin America.

Representative experience

  • Represented the lender in connection with the project contribution of two utility-scale solar project. The projects consist of a 200 MW facility in Indiana and 160 MW facility in Arizona.
  • Represented the lender and tax equity investor on the financing of a leading renewable energy developer and operator backed by Swiss based investment manager.
  • Represented a preferred equity investor in a non-convertible preferred equity investment in a Sponsor' affiliate that owns, directly or indirectly, controlling equity interest in four energy storage projects located in Maine, Illinois, Ohio and North Carolina.
  • Represented a group of banks, as lenders in relation to the financing of a 130 MW AC solar generating and 65 MW AC / 260 MWh battery energy storage system in New Mexico.
  • Represented a Latin America development bank in a refinancing of El Salvador’s outstanding bonds, with the savings dedicated to conservation, water security and ecosystem restoration efforts in the Lempa River watershed. This funding, which is the largest debt conversion transaction of its kind to date, will also stimulate economic development through regenerative agriculture.
  • Part of the cross-border team that completed the construction project financing required for the Cedar LNG project, a floating liquified natural gas export terminal facility to be located offshore in British Columbia in the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation. Upon construction, it will also be the first floating LNG facility in North America.
  • Represented the lender in relation to utility-scale projects across multiple states, including Virginia, Michigan, California, Hawaii and Louisiana.
  • Represented the sponsor in relation to a tax equity financing of the project, an approximately 150 MWac solar + 50 MWac/200 MWh battery energy storage facility in Lowndes County, Mississippi, and an approximately 200 MWac solar facility in McKinley County, New Mexico.
  • Represented the lender, administrative agent, collateral agent and hedge provider, in relation to a financing of the ownership and operation of an approximately 80 MWac ground-mounted solar photovoltaic generating facility in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.
  • Assisted with the implementation of the 2013-Energy Reform that opened the energy market to international companies to participate in the oil, gas and power markets in Mexico.
  • Development of energy projects including the generation of electricity, petrochemical facilities, natural gas pipelines, fuel storage terminals and local distribution assets, among others in Mexico.
  • Assisted Mexico-based companies in complex constitutional and private disputes regarding energy assets, major changes in the regulation and rate controversies.
