Biography
Isaiah Martin is a corporate, commercial, and environmental lawyer with a focus on energy project development. He has experience advising clients on regulatory frameworks for major projects, drafting agreements and documents for projects and transactions, and conducting environmental due diligence. Isaiah has provided legal advice on a multitude of projects, including carbon capture, wind power, solar power, and conventional oil and gas projects. Additionally, Isaiah has assisted clients in proceedings before the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Environmental Appeals Board, and the Canada Energy Regulator. He also has experience with general corporate matters, including M&A transactions and corporate reorganizations.
During his articles, Isaiah completed a secondment with a fully integrated energy company. In law school, Isaiah completed a fall internship with the Alberta Utilities Commission and a summer internship with the legal department of a major midstream company. Prior to starting law school, he worked as a chemical engineer in training for both a major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company and a midsize sustainability consulting firm. Isaiah leverages his technical experience in the energy sector to understand clients’ unique needs and give them practical advice that helps them meet their objectives.

- Completed environmental and regulatory due diligence in connection with the development of a potash mining facility.
- Advised senior counsel and clients on multiple issues related to the construction of several carbon capture and storage hub projects and generation of carbon offset credits.
- Assisted with the internal reorganization and refinancing of a major upstream oil and gas company, aiding it in obtaining a five-year $135 million (USD) loan and a $40 million (CAD) revolving asset backed loan facility.
- Assisted senior counsel in preparing presentations on the topics of provincial carbon sequestration agreements and procurement law principles.
- Assisted senior counsel in reviewing and commenting on non-disclosure agreements during an entering into a joint venture agreement for the design and construction of a carbon capture facility.
- Drafted director and shareholder resolutions and share transfer agreements for several internal reorganizations.
