Biography
Andy’s practice includes intellectual property (IP) transactions, IP litigation and patent prosecution. He leverages the synergy from his blended IP practice to deliver thoughtful and business‑aligned IP counsel. Andy holds a PhD in Translational Biology and Molecular Medicine.
In his IP transactions practice, Andy advises on IP licensing, collaboration, due diligence, software licensing, and open‑source related matters. Andy has experience advising leading research institutions on strategic IP transaction matters and complex commercialization-related IP questions. Before joining the firm, he spent about six years in academic technology transfer, where he cultivated industry–university partnerships and developed a deep understanding of academic commercialization dynamics.
In IP litigation, Andy has contributed to matters through different phases, including pre‑litigation communication, discovery, case strategy development, and trial. His experience includes supporting and participating in overseas depositions of fact and expert witnesses, supporting trial work in a federal jury case and contributing to legal research and analysis in a U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) proceeding. He was also part of a litigation team that secured a trial victory for a software company in a trade secret theft case.
In patent prosecution, Andy drafts and prosecutes patent applications for a wide variety of life science and healthcare technologies, including therapeutics, diagnostics, medical devices and AI‑related technologies. He draws on his scientific background to strengthen patent strategy and drafting. During his PhD, Andy conducted neuroscience research and published first-author and co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers.
