Danielle Maksimow (Calgary) has been named one of Canada’s Leading Lawyers Under 40 at the 2019 Lexpert Rising Stars Awards.
The prestigious award recognizes young legal talent and acknowledges Maksimow’s excellent reputation as an emerging leader advising Canadian banks and borrowers, insurance companies and other financial institutions on high-profile and complex financial matters in Canada and the U.S.
Maksimow is one of only a few lawyers in Canada to have built her practice to represent Canadian and American life insurance companies that purchase notes from Canadian issuers in the cross-border U.S. private placement market. These life insurance companies lend to issuers across diverse industries, including oil and gas, limestone, potash and electricity.
Maksimow sits on the board of trustees and is actively involved with the American College of Investment Counsel, an organization composed of internal and external counsel to life insurance companies purchasing private placement debt.
The Rising Star Award honours Maksimow’s highly sought-after experience, drive and commitment to deliver efficient, comprehensive and consistent service to her sophisticated Canadian and U.S. client base.
Brad Hayden, Norton Rose Fulbright’s managing partner in Calgary, commented:
“Congratulations to Danielle on this outstanding recognition. Danielle has developed a unique practice in Canada, working on U.S. private placement deals. Her ability to recognize the differing needs of both her Canadian and U.S. clients and tailor her legal advice accordingly truly makes her stand out as a leading young lawyer.”
The Rising Star Award is peer reviewed and celebrates personal aspirations and contributions beyond the profession, such as volunteering, board membership, education and teaching. It also honours the determined, hardworking and well-rounded young professionals who are at the top of their fields.
Maksimow will be listed as a Lawyer to Watch in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2020, along with Keith Bustard (Vancouver), Amy Grenon (Toronto), Matthew Longstaff (Calgary), Maya Medeiros (Toronto and Vancouver) and Amélie Métivier (Montreal).
