Biography

Alex Scandroli represents individuals and corporate clients in criminal investigations and enforcement matters brought by the US Department of Justice, the US Securities and Exchange Commission and state and county agencies. Alex’s practice also includes all phases of complex civil litigation, including work on dispositive motions and jury trials. He has extensive experience in health care litigation, trade secret disputes and expert discovery.

  • Obtained jury verdict prevailing on federal and state trade secret misappropriation, copyright infringement and breach of contract claims arising from former employees’ theft of technologies to create a competing software company. 
  • Represents renowned sports medicine clinic in lawsuit against regional hospital alleging conspiracy to unlawfully take over the clinic and retaliate against surgeons, with damages claim of over US$150 million.
  • Represents hospital in dispute with medical clinic for breaches of contract and tortious interference for improperly managing and running residency programs at hospital.
  • Represents a construction developer in federal and state investigation pertaining to the use of public funds to convert underutilized buildings into affordable housing for low-income Californians.
  • Represent county in response to criminal investigation task force established by the Department of Justice to analyze and consider potential fraud charges related to homeless grants and funding.
  • Represents entrepreneur and philanthropist doctor in False Claims Act investigation involving allegations of Medicare fraud.

  • Pro Bono Award for role in litigation successfully challenging state and local practices of seizing and destroying the possessions of unhoused individuals.
  • Pro Bono Award for obtaining an evidentiary hearing in state habeas appeal of an unconstitutionally secured death penalty conviction in Alabama (appeal still pending).
