Developing a custom matter and enquiry management platform for Save the Children UK
Creating a tailored technology solution to improve work allocation, document management, and visibility for legal and compliance matters
The challenge / opportunity
Save the Children UK’s Legal and Compliance team needed a more efficient way to manage the wide range of legal and compliance matters and enquiries they handle on a daily basis. Their existing processes lacked transparency and consistency in work allocation, and they had limited visibility into the types and volume of matters being addressed.
The solution
NRF Transform, Norton Rose Fulbright’s legal transformation programme, collaborated with Save the Children UK (SCUK) to design and deliver a custom matter management solution. Built using Microsoft technology, the platform was tailored to meet SCUK’s specific needs and streamline their workflows.
The Norton Rose Fulbright team, led by Ben Stirling, Director of Applied Technology, conducted a series of workshops with SCUK to gather detailed requirements. These sessions informed the platform’s design, particularly its logic for allocating work, its notification content, the data points it captured, and its dashboard visualisations.
The solution was then developed and configured to align with SCUK’s processes, with full deployment supported by SCUK’s internal Technology team. Legal and compliance professionals at SCUK played a critical role throughout the process, ensuring the platform was shaped by those who would use it daily.
Results and benefits
NRF Matter Hub has transformed the way SCUK’s Legal and Compliance team operates, delivering:
- Transparent work allocation – Matters and enquiries are now assigned clearly and efficiently across the team.
- Streamlined document management – Centralised filing processes support consistency and reduce administrative burden.
- Increased visibility – The platform offers insights into the volume and types of matters being handled, supporting better planning and prioritisation.
- Data-driven insights – Dashboards and reports help demonstrate the value delivered by the Legal and Compliance function.
“The solution Norton Rose Fulbright implemented for us means that we receive, assign, track and file matters and emails in a more efficient and effective way. This has created more time for us to focus on more complex work and a set of data which enables us to draw useful insights to support the business with better prioritisation and planning.”
