Biography

Rowenna Butler is a real estate lawyer based in London.

Rowenna advises on a broad range of commercial real estate transactions, with a particular focus on the real estate aspects of large scale, multi-jurisdictional restructurings, data centre financings and acquisitions and financings of renewable energy projects. She acts for funders, investors and developers within both the private and public sectors.

Rowenna is a member of Real Estate Balance and the Women in Norton Rose Fulbright (WiN) Network and has been published in the ICLG 2023 and 2024 as the official contributor for Real Estate Laws and Regulations in England and Wales.

Rowenna also mentors both aspiring and junior female lawyers, with a particular focus on supporting women from disadvantaged and minority backgrounds, during the early stages of their legal careers.

Advising RWE, the UK’s largest power generator and a leading renewables generator, on its acquisition of JBM Solar, one of the UK’s largest independent solar and co-located battery developers, involving 70+ projects (3.8GW solar / 2.3 GW battery storage) and 150+ sites.

Advising a $669bn investment fund on the acquisition of 75% of the total issued share capital of a renewable energy development platform focused on developing and constructing solar PV and BESS projects across England and Wales.

Acting as lead counsel for a consortium of lenders in respect of the financing of 68MW hyperscale data centre campuses owned by a leading global hyperscale provider, with a development value of £500m+.

Acting on an acquisition, with finance, of a 365 MW UK solar PV portfolio with an enterprise value of c£470m.

Acting on the £253m murabaha refinance of a landmark building in London.

Acting for a U.S. private equity firm on the acquisition of a premier league football club.

Rowenna has been published in the International Comparative Legal Guide 2023 and 2024, having been selected as the official contributor for Real Estate Laws and Regulations in England and Wales.
