Legal secretaries and PAs

Our secretaries are a driving force in our business. In fact, there is very little of our work that they do not influence. From travel management and diary organisation, to meeting coordination and document preparation, our secretaries and PAs ensure that Norton Rose Fulbright can run efficiently and effectively.

There are two categories of secretarial opportunities with us. You can find out more about these by clicking on the links in the left hand navigation.

Legal secretaries and PAs

Our legal secretaries usually support three to five fee earners – looking after complex legal documents and ensuring every detail is correct. And, because there is no hierarchy here, you will be supporting lawyers at a range of levels, ensuring more variety in your everyday work.

That is not the only challenge though. As our firm continues to grow and develop, the role of our secretaries is changing too. Today there is a strong emphasis on PA work – and we make sure our secretaries have the opportunity to develop PA skills and progress. This could see you working with different people throughout the firm, broadening your role and joining our global mobility register to pursue opportunities with our offices overseas.

Opportunities

If you already have experience as a legal secretary but are looking for a bigger challenge and a chance to progress your career path, Norton Rose Fulbright could be the place for you. We are looking for ambitious secretaries who are keen to work with a variety of lawyers and learn about different business areas. With us, you will find more variety, more exposure and the opportunity to build international connections too.

Training

As you develop, your skills will too. If you wish, you will be able to build on your MOS Word Expert qualification by undertaking training in Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel. You will be encouraged to take Soft Skills courses too, in key areas such as Writing effective emails, Persuading and influencing for success, and Energising your time at work.

Trainee secretarial scheme

As a trainee secretary at Norton Rose Fulbright, you will complete a two-year scheme that sets you on a path to be a legal secretary. From time-management and relationship-building skills to professional qualifications such as MOS Expert Standard in Word and Excel, you will gain the soft skills and technical knowledge you need to be successful.

Opportunities

Whether you have recently finished secretarial college or you have gained some experience elsewhere in a secretarial role, you will find that this scheme will really kick-start your career. What is more, where your career path takes you afterwards is very much in your control. You might choose to join a legal team, but that is not your only option. If you prefer, you can become a PA in one of our Business Services teams.
