Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has announced the appointment of Omar Salah as partner, joining the firm’s Amsterdam and London offices from De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek. Omar’s arrival will substantially consolidate the offerings of the firm’s dedicated restructuring and insolvency practice as well as strengthen its wider banking team.
Omar has extensive experience in financial restructurings, insolvency proceedings, distressed M&A, trading in non-performing loans and bank and bond debt restructurings. As a recognised lawyer in this area, Omar has been involved in some of the most complex cross-border restructurings and insolvencies globally.
His practice also focuses on banking and finance matters, including leveraged and acquisition financings, real estate financings, Islamic finance and investment grade corporate loans.
Wouter Hertzberger, head of banking & finance in Amsterdam, commented: “We are very excited for Omar to join the banking team. Omar brings a wealth of experience in the field of restructuring and he will be able to further develop the restructuring practice, not only in Amsterdam but also internationally.”
James Stonebridge, EMEA co-head of bankruptcy, financial restructuring & insolvency, commented: “We are pleased to welcome Omar to Norton Rose Fulbright at what is a pivotal moment, with financial restructuring and insolvency (FRI) a key priority area for the firm. As we emerge from the pandemic and begin to encounter the impacts of Brexit, we anticipate an upturn in FRI matters on which Omar’s experience will be fundamentally important. With the introduction of the new Dutch scheme – WHOA – we expect the Netherlands to become a hub for cross-border restructurings, and Omar’s recruitment will enable us to capitalise on this.”
Chris Brown, EMEA head of banking and finance, commented: “Omar’s appointment represents an excellent addition to our financial restructuring and insolvency team and our wider banking practice. In particular his experience in complex domestic and cross-border matters will be of great value to clients.”
Omar Salah comments: “I am thrilled to be joining Norton Rose Fulbright’s exceptional financial restructuring and insolvency practice as well as its impeccable banking practice. I am impressed by the firm’s global platform and very much look forward to contributing to international matters and providing excellent service to our clients.”
