Biography

Tristan is an associate within our insurance team focusing on insurance advisory to the major non-life insurers, including advising insurers on policy wordings and policy response as well as representing insurers in disputes with other stakeholders across the continent. This is in areas including general liability, business interruption, professional indemnity, public liability, financial institutions and commercial crime. Tristan also has experience advising on cyber-liability issues including sitting on Norton Rose Fulbright's cyber-breach response team and advising a major insurer on cyber claims across the continent.

Tristan regularly assists major non-life insurers in defending claims both in South African courts, and across jurisdictions on the continent. He has experience in assisting insurers with recovery and subrogation claims, including in fire, material damage and general liability claims.

Tristan has previously advised insurers on disruptive technologies and the leveraging thereon by insurtechs and increasingly by incumbent non-life insurers. Tristan has extensive knowledge on disruptive technologies, information security and consumer electronics, allowing him to advise both from a legal standpoint and as an intermediary with more technical teams.
