EU Withdrawal Bill set to receive Royal Assent after clearing Parliament

January 23, 2020

The EU (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill is now awaiting Royal Assent after completing its passage through Parliament. All five of the changes recommended by the Lords were rejected by the House of Commons, including the ‘Dubs amendment’ in respect of unaccompanied child refugees.

MPs voted by a margin of 342 to 254 rejecting the Dubs amendment.

The EU Withdrawal Bill is now set to receive Royal Assent in the next day or so, and could happen as early as 23 January 2020.

The UK must now work with the European Union towards formal ratification of the EU Withdrawal Agreement. The European Council President and the European Commission President are expected to sign the agreement in Brussels on Friday 24 January 2020.

The European Parliament will hold its vote to give consent to the EU Withdrawal Agreement on 29 January 2020.
