Global Press release - People October 31, 2018

As part of Norton Rose Fulbright’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, Global Chief Executive Peter Martyr has joined the Catalyst CEO Champions For Change, making a personal pledge to accelerate gender equality and inclusion within the global law firm.

Norton Rose Fulbright has been a part of the Catalyst CEO Champions For Change initiative since its launch on International Women’s Day in March 2017. The 58 leaders who comprise the Catalyst CEO Champions For Change come from several of the world’s most respected and successful companies, including four law firms.

Martyr, who succeeds Linda Addison as Norton Rose Fulbright’s Catalyst CEO Champion For Change, said:

“Norton Rose Fulbright values diversity and the benefits that diverse teams bring to our clients. We strive to create an inclusive culture where everyone can be themselves and thrive. This focus also helps us to attract the best people.”

Lorraine Hariton, President and CEO, Catalyst, said:

“Our Catalyst CEO Champions For Change companies represent more than 10 million employees and nearly US$2.5 trillion dollars in revenue globally. The positive ripple effect from their commitment is tremendous in helping to build workplaces where everyone has a fair chance to succeed.”

The Catalyst CEO Champions For Change are committing to drive change with a pledge to:

  • Accelerate progress in the representation of women, including women of color, in executive/senior level positions over five years;
  • Accelerate the representation of women, including women of color, on the company’s board of directors over five years;
  • Strengthen the pipeline of women through an annual review of internal diagnostics and leverage leading practices to address any identified issues;
  • Benchmark and track inclusion and improve the culture of inclusion within the organization; and
  • Share key representation metrics with Catalyst for benchmarking and for anonymized reporting of our collective aggregate progress.

Norton Rose Fulbright supports its women-focused diversity objectives through several efforts: the firm’s Women in Norton Rose Fulbright (WiN) Network; the 2020 Global Gender Initiative, which set a target for women to constitute 30 percent of the firm’s management committee and board by 2020; and the firm’s award-winning Career Strategies Program, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the legal field that provides support, training and opportunities for high-potential women on the firm’s leadership track in the US, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.

With Martyr’s appointment, Addison moves to the position of Honorary Champion, becoming the ninth business leader to be recognized in this manner by Catalyst.
