Kyle Havart-Crans
Biography
Kyle Havart-Crans practises regulatory law and commercial litigation, with a focus on the energy industry, including oil and gas, renewable energy, energy storage and alternative energy sources.
Kyle has worked on the acquisition and development of renewable energy projects. He also regularly assists with routine environmental and regulatory matters including permitting, applications and advising clients on a wide range of issues. Kyle also has experience with ESG issues, including greenhouse gas offset crediting and programs, Indigenous matters and net-zero initiatives.
Prior to joining us as an associate Kyle worked, as a legal student, at a major North American pipeline company, a Canadian natural gas midstream company and the Alberta Utilities Commission.
During law school Kyle participated in and led the Queen's Bench Amicus pro bono program and acted as an editor-in-chief of the Alberta Law Review.
Prior to law school Kyle worked as a fisheries biologist in Ontario for a non-governmental organization representing First Nations in the upper Great Lakes region.

Kyle has acted in the following matters:
- Conducted environmental and public due diligence on the purchase of two large renewable energy projects in Alberta
- Conducted research and assisted senior counsel in drafting court documents in a bankruptcy and insolvency dispute centered on qualifaction of abandonnment and reclamation obligations
- Advised a midstream company on a multi-million dollar purchase of carbon offset credits
- Conducted research and drafted submissions for a hearing in front of the Alberta Energy Regulator regarding declarations against directors
