Norton Rose Fulbright advises Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners on first investment in Ireland
United Kingdom | Press release - Business | July 2025
Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners (Quinbrook) on its acquisition of the Wexford Synchronous Condenser Project, a proposed 963 MVA.s. facility to be located in County Wexford, Ireland.
Originally developed by Green Frog Power, the project was awarded a long-term revenues contract under the Low Carbon Inertia Services tender in June 2024 and will be configured to maintain stability in the Irish electricity grid.
This acquisition supports Quinbrook’s continued interest in synchronous condensers, of which it is the largest owner in the UK with over £430 million committed for investment across its portfolio. The project also represents a significant milestone for Quinbrook, being its first Irish-based acquisition as well as bolstering its grid stability portfolio.
Norton Rose Fulbright advised Quinbrook throughout the acquisition. The multi-disciplinary team was led by London-based partner Andrew Davies, who was supported by partner Jason Moss, senior associate Khawaja Akbar, associates Adam Leigh and Dennis Ng, and trainee solicitor Marina Yamamoto. Partner Matthew Hodkin led on the tax elements of the transaction and was assisted by counsel Fareed Muhammed, as well as associate Sduduzo Mhlongo.
Matheson LLP advised on the Irish law aspects.
Andrew Davies commented:
"It has been a privilege to support one of our long-standing clients, Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, on its first Irish investment. This landmark transaction marks an exciting new chapter for Quinbrook as it expands its commitment to advancing grid stability solutions across new markets."
Norton Rose Fulbright has recently advised Quinbrook on the UK’s largest solar PV and battery storage project financing, as well as its joint venture with E.ON to construct 230MW solar and battery storage.
