Biography

Katie Chung is an international disputes and arbitration lawyer based in Singapore. Katie is recognized as a 'Next Generation Lawyer' by Legal 500 Asia Pacific and is described as an "intimidating opponent" who "cuts to the chase", "knows her stuff" and is "really impressive". Katie is named by Singapore Business Review as one of Singapore's most influential lawyers under 40. She has also been nominated by Who's Who Legal as a Future Leader in International Arbitration.

With more than a decade of experience in international arbitration, Katie has advised and represented both private and state-owned clients in international arbitration conducted under institutional and ad hoc arbitration rules. These disputes usually feature an Asian element; involve a wide range of applicable laws and multi-jurisdictional parallel court proceedings.

Katie has extensive experience in oil and gas, renewables and the power sector, particularly in disputes involving a subcontinent angle. Katie has also practised in Hong Kong and was seconded to an international oil company in Hong Kong. Katie regularly sits as an arbitrator and is on the reserve panel of arbitrators for the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the list of arbitrators for the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).

Katie is a member of the executive committee of the Asia-Pacific Forum for International Arbitration (AFIA) and its publication sub-committee. She is currently a 'buddy' in a Young ICCA Mentoring Group, for aspiring and younger international arbitration practitioners. She is also assistant editor of the Singapore Law Blog, and speaks regularly on international arbitration.

From 2015 to 2016, Katie was an elected member of the Council of the Law Society of Singapore for a two-year term, during which she was part of the Young Lawyers Task Force that studied and proposed ways to improve the professional training and lives of younger lawyers.

Prior to joining the firm in June 2010, Katie worked for several years in a leading boutique litigation and arbitration firm. Katie read law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

She is bilingual in English and Mandarin and has a working knowledge of Cantonese.
