Short attacks have the potential to do considerable harm to a public company’s valuation. Unlike the typical investor, a short seller seeks to gain from the decline in a company’s stock price. While short attacks can be difficult to prevent, careful planning can reduce the risk that an attack will occur while positioning companies to respond more effectively when attacks are launched.
