Canada Press release November 2021

Global business law firm Norton Rose Fulbright today announced a gift of C$100,000 to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation and Providence Health Care to support Indigenous wellness and reconciliation. The funding will be used for developing a welcoming, safe and culturally appropriate care experience for Indigenous patients at the hospital now and leading into the new St. Paul’s Hospital at the Jim Pattison Medical Centre currently under construction.

Kieran Siddall, managing partner of Norton Rose Fulbright’s Vancouver office, said:

“We’re pleased to announce our gift to St. Paul’s Hospital to promote improved health and wellness of First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities and, in particular, the ʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations whose traditional, ancestral and unceded territories our office in Vancouver is located on. This donation aligns with our commitment to support reconciliation with Indigenous communities through respect and inclusiveness.

Harmony Johnson, interim vice president of Indigenous wellness and reconciliation of Providence Health Care, commented:

“This generous gift from Norton Rose Fulbright will contribute to the ongoing work of Providence Health Care and St. Paul’s Foundation to address Indigenous-specific racism and to achieve truth, justice and reconciliation in the health system. It is our collective legacy and responsibility to acknowledge and address the harms of ongoing colonialism and to support justice and well-being for Indigenous Peoples. This donation will support Providence Health Care’s commitment to delivering culturally-safe care, upholding the human rights of Indigenous Peoples as described in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and advancing and improving health and wellness outcomes for Indigenous Peoples in British Columbia.”
