Biography

Dirk Trautmann is a banking and finance lawyer based in Munich. His focus is on asset and project finance as well as general bank lending. In project finance, he has gained a wide range of experience in both domestic and international transactions, advising the public sector, lenders and sponsors/project companies on PPP, infrastructure and energy projects.

In the area of asset finance, he acts for lenders, lessors, lessees, manufacturers and other parties in complex finance and lease transactions for aircraft, ships, rolling stock and other movable and immovable assets. Dirk is also active in advising lenders and borrowers in large scale debt financings, including acquisition, restructuring and insolvency scenarios.

Dirk is recognised by leading legal directories for his work. Chambers Europe 2012 and 2013 list Dirk as a key individual in project finance/PPP, stating “Clients appreciate his direct approach, saying: ‘He is straightforward and thinks of any issues that need to be tackled’.” According to Legal 500 EMEA 2013, he is “an extremely well recognised name in the market”. In addition, the US legal directory Best Lawyers ranks him among the Best Lawyers in Germany 2013 in three areas (banking, finance and asset finance).

Dirk holds a law degree from the University of Munich and a master’s degree from Kyushu University, Japan. He is a member of the German Bar Association and the German-Japanese Association of Jurists. A German native speaker, he is fluent in English and also speaks Japanese.
