Biography

Jamie Cooke is a competition lawyer based in London.

Jamie trained with us and qualified into the practice's antitrust, competition and regulatory group in October 2014.  He has worked across a number of different sectors, with particular focuses in the financial, energy and transport sectors.  His work has included multi-jurisdictional merger control, market investigations and studies, cartel investigations, and advice on joint ventures, information sharing and abuse of dominance.

Jamie has spent time on secondment at the Competition and Markets Authority, our Hong Kong office, and in-house at a major energy company.

  • Centamin on its £2.5bn acquisition by AngloGold Ashanti, a rival gold miner
  • Roquette on its  $2.85bn acquisition of the pharmaceutical solutions business of IFF
  • Mercer on its acquisition of Cardano
  • bp and Bunge in respect of the creation of a bioethanol joint venture in Brazil, with multiple filings around the world.
  • Sandvik on its €943m acquisition of DSI Underground.
  • Royal Bank of Canada on its £1.6bn acquisition of Brewin Dolphin
  • Kerry plc on two disposals in its foods businesses
  • Munich Re on its disposal of its UK legal expenses insurance business
  • Countryside on its £1.3bn acquisition by Vistry.
  • Delta Air Lines on the formation of its joint venture with Virgin Atlantic and Air France-KLM.
  • UK National Security and Investment Act matters including for (among others) Brookfield, Shell, Saab and Cognizant, and private equity investors

Regulatory matters, including references and appeals to the CMA, including:

  • Ovo Energy on its intervention in Utilita’s ongoing financial resilience licence modification appeal
  • Delta Air Lines, Inc. on its appeal against the CAA’s H7 Final Decision on the economic regulation of Heathrow Airport Limited (and related cross-intervention)
  • National Grid Electricity Transmission plc and National Grid Gas plc on appeals challenging aspects of Ofgem’s RIIO-T2 price control settlement

  • PwC, Mercer and Santander in the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) market studies/investigations in respect of audit, investment consulting, and retail banking respectively

Formation

Jamie studied law at Brasenose College, Oxford, and worked as a research assistant in competition law to Professor Ariel Ezrachi.  He has a postgraduate diploma in EU Competition law from King's College London.
