Norton Rose Fulbright Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) team is at the frontline of current and new problems concerning businesses, ranging from concerns about sustainability to the effects on distribution networks and assets, board diversity, integrity, and accountability. In this third session of the Turkey webinar series: 2022 ESG trends, partners from Norton Rose Fulbright and alliance firm Pekin Bayar Mizrahi discussed the social and governance issues of ESG.

Ferhat Pekin mentioned that companies which promote social value are anticipated to obtain supplemental benefits in return and that there are numerous laws and regulations which firms and consumers in multiple jurisdictions, including Turkey, must pursue. Ferhat Pekin elaborated on the work environment and cyber security in Turkey by specifically addressing data privacy from the social and governance perspective. Steven Hadwin then talked about global trends in data governance and cyber security regulations and liability risks.

In four primary titles, Kevin J. Harnisch informed about ESG corporate governance considerations. Those to be, board oversight, disclosures, monitoring, policies and procedures. Stuart Neely highlighted human rights due diligence and reporting. To set the stage, he explained the international soft law before moving on to the EU corporate sustainability due diligence directive in Turkey's largest trading partner, Europe. He also focused on the UN guiding principles on business and human rights where a lot of emerging legislations are to be found. Andrew Coote discussed social finance in two headlines; social bonds and sustainability bonds as well as delivered details on social finance investments in which. investment funds, corporates and social bond issuers are to be found.
